Basketball season is almost here! The Everett Hoop Club would like to invite boys and girls grades 5-8, attending schools in the EHS service area, to tryouts for our Select Team Program. Tryouts will be held at the Everett High School gym (24th & Wetmore Avenue) according to the following schedules:
Boys’ Tryouts: Monday, October 16th and Friday, October 20th (7:30-9:00pm)
Girls’ Tryouts: Monday, October 9th and Wednesday, October 11th (7:30-9:00pm)
Please arrive each evening to sign in no later than 7:15pm (please use the blue door at the Wetmore Avenue entrance to enter the facility).
You can register for tryouts by clicking here.
Registration Requirements and Expectations
There is no charge for participating in tryouts for the Everett AAU program. The Everett AAU Program supports travel and school basketball programs. Travel and school basketball *games* should take precedence over feeder team tryouts at this time of year. You are permitted to come late or leave early to meet other obligations and no one will be penalized for missing all or part of a tryout. If this is an issue or you are absolutely unable to make any of the scheduled tryouts, please contact Bobby Thompson at (425) 314-7983 or via email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
No sideline coaching. Our roles are distinct. Coaches will run the tryout process, parents will support and cheer. It’s difficult enough for the players to keep focused with all the pressure on the court, so even well-intentioned advice can be a huge distraction. Also, our coaches will be trying specific drills (certain types of defenses, different offensive sets, etc.) and will be asking the kids to do complicated tasks that might be difficult to understand from a parent’s perspective. As such, it’s best just to watch, enjoy the tryout process, and cheer the kids on.
Player Notification Process
While we hope that every player trying out is able to participate with one of our teams, the reality is that our program is a select team environment, and there is the possibility that not all players will make a team.
Upon completion of tryouts and subsequent evaluations, rosters will be posted on the appropriate team pages under the Roster button, the Sunday following your respective tryout dates. While coaches can handle this process as they wish, players who do not make a roster will not necessarily be notified directly. If you wish to receive specific feedback on your child’s performance at our tryouts and what factors were considered in the decision making process, you may contact Club Director Bobby Thompson at email@example.com. He will direct your inquiry to the appropriate person for a response.
The encouragement we would like to provide to those that don’t make our program is that just because there wasn’t an opportunity this year doesn’t mean there won’t be one in future years. We would encourage those that don’t participate in our program this year to seek other playing opportunities (such as the Everett Boys & Girls Club or personal training) to continue their quests to become better players. If you need guidance in this area, please don’t hesitate to contact us with questions.
